As soon as the news of the Super Blue Blood Moon came out this year, everyone was excited to witness an unusual lunar occurrence, which last happened over 150 years ago. It was dubbed as such because it was a total lunar eclipse, a blue moon, and a supermoon, happening all at once.
The special celestial event took place on January 31, and a lot of people shared their own shots of the full bright moon, glowing with a bloody crimson light. If you weren’t able to see it, that’s totally fine. Another Super Blue Blood Moon will happen in 2037, so you’d better watch out for it. Yes, it’s 19 years from now. But hey! That’s much better than waiting another 150 years, right?
Aside from that rare experience, there were other astronomical events every stargazer or astronomical enthusiast would have wanted to witness. One was the planetary alignment of the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. It occurred on March 7. It became a more interesting sight as the core star of the constellation Scorpius, Antares, was shining in the middle of the alignment.
Mercury was also highly visible on March 15 as it passed along the greatest elongations. Apparently, this event is going to happen several times this year; the next occurrences will be in July, August, November, and December. You have a lot of time to prepare for it.
Although you have missed a couple of astronomical events since the start of the year, there’s no reason for you to feel sad. The good news is that there are still many celestial sightings to watch out for this 2018, and Telescopic Watch had them laid down in a well-detailed infographic.
